Binary data, consisting of 1's and 0's, has long been difficult to edit. Through the use of 010 Editor's unique Binary Templates technology binary data can be viewed and edited in an easy, intuitive fashion. 010 Editor allows Binary Templates to be shared among its users and even features an online, growing repository of Binary Templates that been developed by users of the software. The repository contains templates for file formats such as AVI, BMP, GIF, PAL, RAR, TIF, WAV, ZIP, plus many more. When a Binary Templates is run on a file, the file is parsed into a hierarchical data structure that is presented to the user for easy viewing and modification.

010 Editor also features a professional hex editor capable of editing any file of any size quickly and easily. Processes, hard drives, floppy drives, flash drives, CD-ROMs, etc. can be viewed and edited with 010 Editor as well. The software includes standard Cut, Copy, and Paste functionality plus powerful Find capabilities, Binary Comparisons, advanced Check Sum/Hash algorithms, Histograms, and other analysis tools. 010 Editor can even export data in a variety of formats such as HTML and RTF. A Binary Template is a text file that contains what appears to be standard C/C++ structures, but the structures may contain conditional statements such as 'if', 'for', 'while', 'switch' which give the template the flexibility needed to parse virtually any binary file format.
